COTTAGES AT HEDGEBROOK
HOME
While living in West Tisbury, MA, I felt the urge to dig in the soil, or grow within--my self.
Sweet Pea Garden
During the winter of 1987, I was hired by my neighbor, Anna Edey, to work in Solviva a community designed, and built, greenhouse. I was introduced to seed catalogues, and taught The Living Art of Organic Gardening.
While cultivating a love for the planet, my sons, and my seedlings, I also learned about the
waterless toilet.
I sold a beauty-full, organically grown, color coordinated, salad mix to 2 restaurants, a country inn,
and the only health food store on the island for $12 a pound.
During that same winter, I ordered many different types of seeds. The following spring, I planted what interested me most. This included several varieties--and shades--of gourmet lettuce, and
edible flowers.
I had a garden on Martha's Vineyard.
